Friday 17th October
We left Durham, sadly, a little after 10. There was some difficulty with the coach/driver/access, but nonetheless we made good time to Harrogate, for Mass at our old friend Saint Wilfrid’s.
I believe it is usual to drop parties off slap bang in the centre of town and come back for them at an appointed time. Unfortunately our driver did not do this but parked immediately in the coach park, which meant too much of a walk for some of our number, who repaired to the next-door Asda for some lunch!
There really was not much time, with the added walking, so some of us only went a little way and had an enjoyable lunch. Others more stoic went into the centre – the lure of Betty’s!
We rejoined our coach promptly at 3.30 and travelled safely back to the East Midlands, dropping people off at Nottingham and Long Eaton, arriving back at Saint Aidan’s at a few minutes before 7. As this was the predicted ETA, it was most impressive.
In fact the whole trip was impressive – for efficiency, time-keeping, choice of hotels, venues, things too numerous to mention. Fr Simon truly did a splendid job and we were all very appreciative of his efforts – a wonderful pilgrimage!
